Book Review: Luckiest Girl Alive

If you’re interested in psychological thrillers then you should consider reading the second book on my summer reading list, Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll.

In chapter 1 we meet Ani, a girl many New York women would envy. She’s beautiful, has a dream job and is soon to marry a great catch. We quickly learn that Ani has a past. While attending an elite preparatory school, Ani suffered a startling and tragic event. It left her damaged, eager to escape her past. She certainly has escaped it too, that is until she agrees to go back home to be part of a documentary. Then we slowly learn the truth.

Pros:

  • I actually didn’t like the main character, Ani, very much until near the end. After I learned about her shocking past, I became more empathetic, understanding why she was how she was. It was a wonderful to experience this character arch as the reader.

Cons:

  • There were a lot of references to designers and other popular things in the beginning. It bothered me a bit as it slowed the pace of the story.
  • Each chapter builds the plot, but gradually. It wasn’t until half way through that I became interested in the the storyline.

Welcome! I'm Jaime, a 30-something girl living in New York City. Like one of my favorite heroines, Alice, I felt I'd lost my "muchness" when I first moved to NYC. This blog continues to help me find it. I hope you'll be a part of the adventure!
