luv the cute kitten pics! u must come from a really close-knit family–u always “sound” rather homesick when u write about them. i’ve wanted to live in nyc forever, but it’s SO expensive! any tips on how to find an apt. and survive there?
Hey Emily! Yes, we’re close. It’s one of the hardest things about living in NYC–being so far from family. I’ll give you this advice: living in NYC is like being in a relationship. You have your ups and downs, but if you commit, she’ll stick by you. For apartments, check out Gypsy Housing on Facebook and Naked Apartments. Also, if you don’t know much about the city (which I didn’t when I first moved here), consider using a broker. This is how I found my current apartment. It’s more expensive, but definitely worth the investment. Hope this helps!
thanks, jaime, will definitely check those out. was wondering if u would consider writing some posts about exactly how u planned & executed your move, how much things actually cost there–rent, utilities, food, metrocards, entertainment–how to find work, etc. u r inspiring me to actually make this transition, & i’m sure i’m not the only small-town girl with big-city dreams who would find that info interesting & helpful!
I can totally do that. NYC is really a magical place, but can be intimidating. Making the decision to move is a hard one too. Hope I can help and thanks for the suggestion!
awesome! i really want to make it finally happen this year–have let my fear get the better of me for far too long. will look forward to your posts (no detail too small…)
Welcome! I'm Jaime, a 30-something girl living in New York City. Like one of my favorite heroines, Alice, I felt I'd lost my "muchness" when I first moved to NYC. This blog continues to help me find it. I hope you'll be a part of the adventure!
